Meet Vice District Governor Harold Ullman

Lion Harold was born August 11, 1943 in Mantua, Ohio. He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1962 and served in the United States Army Reserves from 1962 to 1968. He was awarded Outstanding Soldier of the Month while serving his country. He was employed with Portage County Water Resources as Superintendent of Collection Systems over 34 years until his retirement on April 1, 2002. After a few months, Harold went back to work on an as needed basis for the Portage County Water Resources Department and continues work as a consultant.

Lion Harold joined the Crestwood Lions Club in 1988. He has served as club President twice, Zone Chairman twice and served on the Cabinet for twelve years. He was recently on the State Committee for Sight & Hearing/Pilot Dogs, Inc. Awards include being selected as Lion of the Year nine times and recognition as the top Lions fun calendar salesman seventeen times. He has twice received the Presidents Award and received the Governors Membership Development Award in 1992-1993 for sponsoring six new club members. In all, he has sponsored 23 members into the Crestwood Lions Club. Lion Harold also received the Council of Governors Merit Award in 1995-1996, 2001-2002 and again in 2006-2007. In 2005-2006, Lions International awarded Harold the Certificate of Service Award in recognition of outstanding district leadership in hearing and speech action with the deaf. He has attended eighteen district conventions and eleven state conventions. He was also honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1998. Lion Harold served eleven years on the Board of Directors for Pilot Dogs, Inc. In total, he has collected over $850,000 from District 13-D for Pilot Dogs as Sight & Hearing/Pilot Dogs State Chairman. He helped make it possible for thirteen Pilot Dog scholarships to be given by the Crestwood Lions Club. In August 2006, Lion Harold was appointed to the office of Deputy District Governor of the District. Lion Harold is currently Vice District Governor of Multiple District 13-D. VDG Harold is Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee and MERL Team.

Harold is a past president and member of Mantua Village Council, serving eight years. He previously served seven years on the Board of the Mantua-Shalersville Fire District, two of which he was President. He currently serves as an honorary member of the Mantua-Shalersville Firefighters Association. Harold is a recent candidate and was elected to the Crestwood Hall of Fame in 2006 for sports and civic contributions. In September 2006, Harold was chosen to be the Grand Marshall of the Mantua Potato Festival Parade.

Lion Harold and his wife Joyce were married August 14, 1965 and have a daughter Wendy and twin boys Brad and Brian. Lion Harold and Joyce are members of the Portage Faith United Methodist Church in Mantua.
