FVDG John has been a Lion for 47 years and has been recognized for Perfect Attendance for all those years. He joined the organization as a member of the Shadyside, Ohio Lions Club in 1964. In1969 he transferred his membership to the Toronto, Ohio Lions Club where he remained a member for 19 years. In 1988 he transferred his membership to his current club, the Jackson Township Lions Club, where he has been a member for 23 years. br />
Lion John served as President of the Toronto Lions Club in 1987-1988; served as President of the Jackson Township Lions Club in 2004-2005; and as District 13D Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer in 2005-2006. He served in the capacity of club Secretary in all 3 clubs in which he has held membership, including
six years as Secretary of the Jackson Township Lions Club. He has served on the District 13D Cabinet for four years as Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer; as District Quest Chairperson; and as District Newsletter Co-Editor. Lion John currently serves as Treasurer of the Melvin Jones District 13D Lions Eye Care Foundation and has been Chairman of the Jackson Township Lions Club Sight and Hearing Committee since 1999.

Awards received by Lion John include an International President's Certificate of Appreciation in 1988; an International President Award in 1993; a Lion of the Year Award from the Toronto Lions Club in 1988 and two Lion of the Year awards from the Jackson Township Lions Club in 1999 and 2007. He received a Knight of the Blind Award in 2001; a Melvin E. Jones Fellowship Award in 2000 and a Fellowship Progressive Award in 2008.

Lion John and his wife Midge celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary February, 2011. They have three children and three grandchildren.
